Terms of service
Version mtfs-laborhood-2026-10-03-membership · October 3, 2026
These Terms govern TheLaborhood, operated by Making Things For Smiles, LLC (MTFS). By accepting these Terms in the app, you agree to them and acknowledge the Privacy policy. Questions: mark@makingthingsforsmiles.com.
Accounts and local work
You must be at least 18 and able to enter binding agreements. Provide accurate account and business information, protect your sign-in links, and act only for businesses you are authorized to represent. TheLaborhood helps customers and workers discover, agree on, document, and resolve physical-service work. Using the app does not make a worker an MTFS employee or guarantee a job, earnings, qualifications, insurance, or a successful result. Participants must confirm scope, authority, access, licensing, permits, insurance, safety, and applicable legal requirements before work begins.
Scope, claims, and completion
Describe the work, location, budget, access conditions, and completion expectations clearly. A submitted claim is a request to take the work, not acceptance. Confirm the accepted claim and agreed scope in the app before starting. Use private chat for coordination and submit relevant completion evidence. Do not place sensitive information in public posts. Reviewers may request more information or hold a payout while a completion, safety, payment, or dispute issue is unresolved.
Funding, fees, and payouts
Bounty payments are for physical services. The bounty is the agreed gross amount before fees. When a funding quote uses the graduated fee schedule, the buyer pays the displayed buyer fee in addition to the bounty, and the worker receives the bounty less the displayed worker fee. Each participant’s fee is calculated separately on the portions of the bounty in each bracket: on the first $1,000, 6% for a free account, 5% for Operator, or 4% for Buyer team; on the next $4,000, 4%, 3%, or 2.5%, respectively; and on the amount above $5,000, 2.5%, 2.25%, or 2%, respectively. These are marginal brackets, not one rate applied to the full bounty. Fees are calculated in cents and each participant’s total fee is rounded once. Before funding, the buyer reviews and accepts the quoted bounty, buyer plan, buyer fee, and total charge. Before claiming, the worker reviews and accepts the quoted worker plan, worker fee, and net payout. Those accepted plan and fee amounts are saved for that funding and claim; later membership or fee-schedule changes do not change those saved amounts. For example, on a $10,000 bounty when both participants have Buyer team memberships, the buyer fee is $240 and the total charge is $10,240; the worker fee is $240 and the net payout is $9,760. For a $10,000 bounty when both participants have free accounts, each fee is $345, the buyer total is $10,345, and the worker net is $9,655. Existing funding created under the prior flat-fee schedule keeps its saved fee and payout amounts. Catalog items that are not offered at checkout do not create a subscription or charge.
Stripe processes payments and connected-account onboarding. Funding, an accepted claim, or submitted completion does not mean money reached a worker’s bank; release depends on review and payment state, and bank availability on Stripe requirements. For canceled, incomplete, duplicate, or disputed work or charges, contact support with the reference. Refunds and payout adjustments are reviewed against scope, evidence, funding, transfers, provider refund totals, dispute outcomes, and applicable rights. For graduated funding, reconciled customer recovery reduces worker entitlement up to the accepted net payout; no worker entitlement exists before a worker accepts a payout quote. Funds are not released or adjusted while a dispute is open or provider totals cannot be reconciled. A browser return is not proof of charge or payout. A refund is complete only when confirmed by the provider. Nothing here removes rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
Safety and acceptable use
Do not post unlawful, dangerous, deceptive, discriminatory, harassing, sexually exploitative, or infringing content; impersonate others; evade blocks; misuse private information; or manipulate claims, evidence, reviews, or payments. Do not arrange work you cannot lawfully or safely perform. Report unsafe content and block unwanted contact using the app. For immediate danger, contact emergency services; TheLaborhood is not an emergency-response service.
You remain responsible for content you submit and must have permission to share it. You grant MTFS the permission needed to host, display, deliver, moderate, and process that content to operate the service. Automated or agent-submitted suggestions must pass the same access and review controls; they are not independent guarantees of accuracy or safety.
Restrictions, support, and deletion
We may restrict accounts or content where necessary to address abuse, safety, fraud, payment risk, or violations of these Terms. Contact support to ask for review of a decision. You may stop using the service and request deletion. Deletion does not cancel existing payment obligations or erase transaction records required for reconciliation or law. The approved retention for local account-level Stripe links is 180 days after deletion, as described in the Privacy policy.
Availability and responsibility
The service may be interrupted or changed. We do not guarantee the availability, quality, legality, or safety of work offered by members, or that another member will fulfill an agreement. Each participant is responsible for their conduct and service commitments. These Terms do not exclude liability or consumer protections that applicable law does not permit us to exclude. Material changes to these Terms will be published with a new version and presented for acceptance where required.
